Chris Sancomb was born in Winnipeg, Canada and raised in Louisville, Kentucky; he received his BFA in Sculpture from Rhode Island School of Design, and MFA in Sculpture from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Chris has taught and lectured throughout the country in sculpture, design, art education and creative practice. Prior to resettling in Rhode Island Chris also worked extensively in the field of sculpture as a mold maker, metal fabricator, architectural stone restoration and furniture design. Currently, Chris divides his time between his studio practice, teaching, and the design and fabrication of interactive exhibits and environments for museums. His studio research is focused on exploring the metaphor, mythology and poetry of Cosmology and Physics through data visualizations and generative form making.
Chris has also been nominated for the John R. Frazier Award for Excellence in Teaching at RISD.
